I just bought a 1991 bass boat with the force 150 hp on it. Previous owner crossed the batery leads and fried the rectifier as he explained and I did notice one of them replaced by a small compact unit, may be an aftermarket rect..
Has anyone experienced or seen this? What else could possibly get damaged from this. Have not looked into it as of yet so I just thaught of getting as much feedback as I can before tackling this repair. All else seems to show no phisical signs of burning such as wiring or components.

Also which is the best service manual for this engine?

You only need to cross the battery leads for an instant to fry the rectifier.
Factory manual is by far the best.
