A couple of more questions,

Im hearing alot of people talking about RPM's especially when it comes to finding the correct Prop and knowing if your engine is working well with your Prop.

Can I go to my local Auto Parts store or Wal Mart and by a Tachometer and install on my boat? And if so how? Im sure it comes with instructions but probably for a car.

Second question, I tried to remove the plug above my thermostat with an impact driver, no luck. I saw the post on other people having a tought time with removing there plug to install a tell-tail. Any other Ideas? I went to Lowes and they gave this screw remover kit but a little scared to start drilling into the screw.

Thanks again
Derrick

That tachometer is a special one for Force 20 pole alternator stator. Teleflex makes one and you can buy it through iboats. There is also another inexpensive site--I forget where, and finally, you can go over to Chrysler Crew and order through Dave Kain at Hurrikain products. He says he can get them a little cheaper than iboats.

Now, as to that plug. Fun, isn't it? Use penetrating oil and the impact screwdriver and a little heat--not too much unless the head is off the block--we don't want to ruin the head gasket at 45 bucks a pop stock or 26 bucks through Wiseco. And aluminum head will expand WAY more than the stainless plug, loosening it --maybe. Alternate heat and penetrating oil, and if you have the time, just keep squirting penetrant on it and let it sit for a few weeks--may just loosen the corrosion. The trick here is judicious use of force and patience.

Re: Force 1989 85 HP Tachometer

I did this same this last year on my 1989 85 hp Force - works great.
Mine was a slotted screw. I used a flat-blade impact driver bit - the biggest size that fit the best. Then I used a socket that fit the bit and used a 1/2" breaker bar to get the torque needed while pushing the bit into the slot so it wouldn't slip. It work but definitely a bit scary applying that much torque. I think the key is to find a bit that fits properly.
