I recently purchased a 1993 40hp Force outboard. It starts fine and looks very clean. The problem is I cannot get any water out the 2 exhaust holes. Here is what I have done.

Started in the hose and muffs = nothing
in a 40gal trash can with water over the water pump location = nothing
Pulled lower unit checked pump everything looked good and pipes were clear. Pulled the plug on the thermostat and got nothing but a little smoke. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Force 1993 40hp water pump impeller problem

I'm having the same problems with my 1974 55HP I replaced the impeller twice. Once with the 10 vane it came with, and now a 6 vane I was told works much better. The result was the same. No cooling while under way. Now I'm told to replace the entire impeller housing, seal, gasket and wear plate.

Seems the problem is with the impeller housing getting scored, pitted and or "wallowed" over time. I'm solving my problem by using the Chrysler motor as an anchor and bolting on a newer Suzuki motor. Since yours is a much newer motor, start with a new impeller. If the new impeller does not work you'll have to replace the waterpump assembly IE; Impeller, Housing, Seal, Gasket and Wear Plate.

Go to www.franzmarine.com , they will be able to fix you up with a simple impeller or an entire waterpump kit.
