Checked the compression after overheat(warning buzzer) and immediate shutdown.
Found 25#on 1,110#on 2,75#on 3.
Under 100 hrs. on motor,no holes in pistons and they look clean as do the sparkplugs(ie; nice and tan with no metal balls commonly found when pistons cook).
This motor had been run with too much oil I suspect. Could the rings be stuck? Would decarbonization and compression recheck be the first order of business B-4 I pull the head. I've been warned not to run this motor if it has a blown headgasket as it would erode the metal where the gasket blew.
The overheat problem will be taken care of either way B-4 it's started.
Advice???? Your experiences with this motor?

It could very well have been a blown head gasket, which would also give the low reading on test.
To verify this before pulling the head, get some spray decarb cleaner, and lod-up the cylinders with it. Let it sit for a while, and turn it over, with plugs out and grounded, for 10-20 seconds, muffs on.
Then,run another compression test.
If it came back, it was a stuck ring. If not, it will probably require tear-down in any case to remove carbon or install rings.

The only things water helps with are cooling, and lubrication of water pump impeller. If the lower end is off, the latter isn't a problem. If you're not running the engine, neither is the former.

Ok! compression is up..
30# on #1
110# on #2
110# on #3
#1 cylinder is the top one, so I reloaded it up with more decarb. and will let it sit overnight. We'll see whats up tomorrow and keep ya'll posted. My best guess is headgasket blown. Any other tricks to try b4 playing head games?

That 30# suggests it may well be the gasket. It is a pretty basic operation to replace (assuming the bolts come out OK) and inexpensive. Just torque the head to specs and in order and you hopefully will be up and running again!
