Force 35 HP motor question

Hello again everyone!

I have a silly question here. My 35 HP Force is toast, that's to say that the compression is shot on both cylinders. Can I buy a larger power head (new or used) -- say a 50 HP and attach it in the existing housing, and to the lower unit? Will it fit under the 35 HP cowl?

Now if it were a Chrysler I would say yes.

But it is a Force. Depending upon the year, it is a distict possibility that the 50 Force powerhead will mate to your 35 leg and will fit under the hood.

Linkages were a bit different for some model years so you would need to look closely. However if the mounting pattern for the block is the same AND the driveshaft diameter is the same, then control linkages could be swapped with the addition of a correct lower cowling.

Yes you can as long as you stay within compatible years. I bought a 35 hp for the trim unit. Ended up liking how clean the whole motor looked compared to mine. I took my power head and transferred it over. Perfect fit. They are identical in size if you put them beside each other. My motor is now a 35 hp but under the hood a 50 hp. The 35 hp, 40 hp and 50 hp look like the same motor. weight differences are not much if any. My motor is an 1988 and the 35 I used was a 1991. Make sure the years are compatible! Good Luck!

Easiest way to find out is take the model number located at the front of motor below the hood top part of the leg. Should have model and serial # on a tag. ********** has a search category. with the model number you have it should be easy to find out. Then just look for compatible motors on craigslist or ebay. I live in Canada so we use kijiji.ca I found mine 12 hrs away from me and had a trucking company ship it to me for 100$ . (always go with the truckers lol) Hell you might even want to try kijiji your not that far from our border. The people in my province give force moters away lol. Hope this helps!
