I have a Force 35 HP OUTBOARD MODEL 357F6A 1986
It over heats, impeller looks good, removed thermostat "No thermostat" poured water threw the thermostat space and it came out the water tube and gear case area. As of now the gear case is apart waiting for new impeller figured I would change anyway. any suggestions Please....Thanks

Was the old impeller pumping water good? A good spit out the back mixed with exhaust or solid if you install a Tell Tale. If you have a good water flow, I feel it has to be a mechanical issue, IMO.

How are you detecting the over heating (light, buzzer, horn in my case)? Could it be false or you know and see sign of over heating (as not being able to quick slap the head w/o getting burned)?

Give some history as to how long this has been happening and what you think might have started the issue (as I hit a stump). This could possibly damage your flywheel key and throw your timing off and cause over heating.

Re: Force 35 Hp Overheating

I have read of feeding water up the water tube to try and flush mud etc restricting out. This could be the same sys as the Thermostat that you said allowed water to flow (I'm not sure). When the water flowed from the thermostat area did it come out at the mid leg?s port or at the bottom of the leg?

My suggestion is if you can force water using duck tape, muffs etc to prove there is no restriction would say a lot. I have read some have used wire to rem restriction in the tube. No water I feel indicates restrictions IMO vs a possible mechanical issue. Plus, w/o water I would do very little running vs doing more damage.

If the thermostat was removed that could be saying someone was looking for a problem. Did you not test drive the boat and see cooling water before getting it? Does the motor run good as if there are possibly no mechanical issues? I d/n really know what to look for during the 1970 35hp test ride the PO took me on. He ran the Monster hard a good distance and told me so much about caring for the boat/motor I was dizzy and satisfied (the boat/motor was part of his family from new). He Was A Very Honest Man!!!

Your motor needs a special kind of muffs.
The regular ones don't seal as good.
They might work but might not.
See the pics, this is what you should get/use.

If the muffs do not work, try it deep as you can get it in a 55 gal barrel. I have a drain plug on the bottom of my 55 to connect a hose to, because draining is a pain. Otherwise, try it in a body of water. For some, the muff are not working as well as ?Deep Water?. Catch A Fish And LOL!!!
