Force 35 - Wiring question

I posted a message the other day re. a Force 35 with low compression in the lower cylinder. Bought it used, have never run it, and am trying to figure out if I need to rebuild it. Several respondents suggested I do a decarb job, which necessitates running it for awhile. It came without a wiring harness, so, with the help of the wiring diagrams from both the service manual and the ignition swith I bought, I jury rigged the wiring, just so I could get it running. Tonight I fired it up and it ran. And ran. And ran. I could not shut it down. Turned off the ignition, pulled out the lanyard from the emergency shut off switch, and it just kept on going. Finally disconnected the battery and that did it. So, two questions. (1) Any idea how to fix this?, and (2) is this dangerous? All I really want to do at this point is run the thing long enough to decarb it, to see if this brings the compression up - no plans to take it out into the water like this. But I don't really want to do this if it presents any kind of danger of a short, wires overheating, or whatever.

Re: Force 35 - Wiring question

hey pete b.

greetings from lake oconee... yea it sounds pretty dangerous to me. actually, as far as i understand it - the engine just needs to be warmed up before decarbing. if you are going to use your current set up (to decarb) - you would just need to keep an eye on it (from overheating). i assume you have the hose hooked up w/"muffs". if you are worried you are going to have to rebuild it anyway, what is the use in spending a bunch of money up front on the wiring? you are right about the water deal - it would be a real bad idea to run her in the water in the current set up.

mason
