Ok I am having the same kind of problem with my 1990 35hp Force. Had the boat out 3 days ago and ran fine.(first time for the year) I mean we hit spot after spot stop started, stopped and started. Got back to the boat launch turned it off and for the heck of it tried to start it again. NOTHING.... So we thought it was the battery we went and replaced the battery. NOTHING... other then a turn before compression. So like everyone else is saying starter right? Wrong had the starter checked by specialist he said nothing really wrong just cleaned it up for us and put it back together. Put the starter back in and still turns until compression. Take the plugs out turns over like it should, put one plug back in and it turns like one whole spin. Both plugs back in turns til compression. We bypassed the cyinoid and still the same thing. I'm getting frustrated and not sure what else to do???? Please HELP!!!!

Compression test?
Flywheel key sheared?
Check the gear oil for metal shavings.
Possible the gears gave out and are locking up?
Loose connection?

Re: Force 35 won't turn over

So I found the reason yesterday. A friend was turning the flywheel and said it seemed a little tight or binding. So I said well lets check the lower unit oil and see. We just filled it before taking it out but still wanted to check. Opened the vent screw... nothing.... opened the fill screw nothing but water.... Uttt ohhh!!! So we filled it back up and tried starting it, it fired right up but Im like where did the oil go? So we filled it back up and brought it to the boat launch and left it on the trailer ran it for like 10-15 mins until my buddy says hey watch over here I see a bubble every few seconds come up and it looks like oil. So I watched and seen it then looked on the opposite side and it look like a fish tank aerator.LOL.. So we brought it home and looking over it I had a pin hole in the lower unit where the oil was leaving from. Luckily today where having one of our friends weld it and then it will be back to the river we go!!!!!! Thanks to everyone here who was thinking about it and answered back !!!
