Force 40 HP by Mercury Rigging Questions

I started a project today and have a few questions.

I bought an 84 Monark 17' bass boat, solid boat for the most part, just needs some TLC.

The guy I bought the boat from bought it for the Yamaha 150hp motor, he took it off and put it on his pontoon and hung the Mercury Force 40 hp from the pontoon on the bass boat, but didn't hook anything up.

The steering from the bass boat and Yamaha were left in place it has two steering linkages; however the Force only has the tube (because I don't know what it is called) in the motor mount for one cable. Will I need to get a replacement steering system that only has one or is it as simple as unconnecting one and removing the cable?

Next question is, I got the controls and cables from the pontoon boat for the force motor, but I know they are too long as the previous owner said he bought longer cables for the Yamaha because the ones from the bass boat were to short. So my question is, can I make a loop (no kinks) with the excess shift and throttle cables, can these be shortened or should I order the right size.

If it is order the right size where would one get cables for an 85 force?

My final question is the gauges, they are all from the Yamaha motor, will they work with the Force or will I need gauges for the force? If I need gauges, where is a source for them?

Thank you in advance to replying to my post with answers. Also I have no illusion that this motor is the right size for the boat, I understand that it will never get this boat on plane. In my area of Missouri, all of our fishing lakes are no wake lakes so even if I found a 150hp motor on there it would just be extra money out the window so my thoughts are to get what I have rigged up and working, it fits my application pretty well.

The throttle and shift cables can be looped to shorten them.
I know the Force uses a 20 pole tachometer.
Sorry can't help with the steering cable issue. max!

Thanks MAX!!!!

I think I am going to have to replace the Steering box, going to call a company call T&R Marine tomorrow and see what they tell me, they make duel cable adapters so they may know.
