I have a 1988 Bayliner Carpri; open bow 15'. It has a 88 force 50. With 3 people in the boat and gear, it makes plane and I get very good top speed at about 30-35 mph. However, when I have 4 people or add an additional 200 lbs, it just won't quite make it to plane. I tried a smaller pitch prop, but dropped speed to half or less. Is there anything else I can tweak on this engine to get a little extra power to push me onto plane with 4 people?

Thanks
Dave

bigger boat and engine :)

I have the same boat ('89 15ft bowrider capri) with the same problem (although I switched to a Merc 50hp). It's a hard-to-plane boat, I went to a lower pitch and it never planed. Further aggrivating the situation, the coast guard sticker limit is 50hp, most 15 footers from other manufacturers can at least handle a 60hp.

If you really want to try and tweak the engine, I would repost under the Force engine section.

Part of the trouble with a little boat is as you add weight there isn't enough surface to get it up on the water. You could try raising the motor vertically 1/4" at a time till just before ventilation becomes a problem.Be sure the clamp still has a good grip and it pumps water. This could give you a little more speed and may get it on plane slightly easier. You could also move the gas tank and battery forward to the mid section of the boat.
Probably your best bet is something like "Smart Tabs".These will improve handling, make it easier to get on plane, stay on plane and improve slow speed wander.

You've reached the limits of your boat and motor combo.

I have a 1984 15 foot open bow Bayliner Capri that has a 85hp force and the coast guard sticker approves up to a 90 hp engine. You may want to consider selling the 50 and going up to an 85 or higher.
