Hello, I have a 1987 14ft Bayliner with a Force 50 with a serial # of 1411 and a model # of 507X7c. When I first ran the boat it was a charm. I now have the following problem: The boat will only do 5mph. I have replaced the plugs and have done a spark test which showed good spark from the coil, but after running motor at 5mph around the lake (fishing of course)and I pull the top plug it is wet and appears not to be firing. The motor sounds good at idle and revs fine in nuetral but when engaging to forward it has no power. Any suggestions?

Re: Force 50 engine problems

Sounds like a bad connection to me. I have a 50hp Force on a 1989 15ft Bayliner that gave me all kinds of problems until I took the multiple terminal strips and connectors completely out, threw them away and soldered all the wires. No more problems, period. This solution is not for everybody, but I think those big terminal strips and the connectors are a bad weak link as a loose connection or a fractured wire that you cant see can cause intermittant malfunctioning of all kinds. Go thru all connections meticulously, one by one and check for looseness, fractured wires just behind the connectors (especially the little thin ones), and clean and tighten. You have an intermittant bad connection that you are going to have to trace down or it will give you fits and mimic all kinds of more serious engine conditions. Good luck!!
