I purchased a Harmonic balancer removal tool from auto parts supplyer, The bolt pattern is the same as the fly-wheel, The olny difference is no long handle to keep the fly-wheel, This thing is so tight I still cant budge it, Question? Should I apply heat to the fly-wheel around the shaft before pulling or will this damage something?
Thanks
Steve

tighten the puller then give it a sharp rap with a hammer right on the top of the puller bolt or try an impact wrench , either one should work.Heating the flywheel is not a good idea.

You can heat the flywheel but ONLY with an electric heat gun. No Torch. As one more cast said, an impact wrench is best. Preferably, ah 1/2" drive, air operated one.

c/6

Hooty

I would certainly spray some penetrating oil in first and let it sit for a bit.

I would also use an impact wrench and NOT, repeat NOT hammer the crankshaft. From experience I used a Harmonic balancer to remove the flywheel and tapped the center of it with a hammer to break free my flywheel. 10 days later - the connector rod bearing cage broke and one powerhead - now useless.

Using a hammer on the crankshaft can easily damage main bearings, oil seals, etc. Not worth the risk - IMHO. Rent, borrow, by an electric impact wrench - worth it.

I use the hammer and wack the puller bolt. I've got all kinds of air tools and with a good 1/2" air wrench you can literally suck the threads out of the three puller holes in the flywheel.
