i have an 89 force 50hp. when engine is cold it idles down fine but when engine warms up wont get below fast idle and engine jerks from side to side. also, has some pinging under load but goes away at peak rpm. i've discovered when i advance timing at idle to 15deg btc it will idle down at normal operating temp but this throws the timing out of sync with carb i have the timing set at 30deg btc at peak rpm.i need to get it to idle down so i can get into gear. engine runs good at top speed. any info would be greatly appreciated

Force is the one engine I can answer any question on....Until now. Your engine is acting strange.Usually, it's the other way-round, being high idle at startup, then settling-down after a few minutes.
My initial suspicion is the fuel recirculation sytem is plugged. Make sure the tube from the fuel pump to the block is clear, and that no carbon is blocking the ports in the block and fuel pump. you may find loose bolts on the fuel pump itself (I have found this before), as the engine will vibrate them loose if they haven't been given a treatment of locktite or other thread locker. I know it is hard to get at this tube, but you can't get a stable running engine without a clean recirculation system.
If you need help with linkage and engine sync adjustments after checking these, let me know. (it get's long-winded).
