Force 50 very slow

I have a Force 50 that had a new lower unit installed. When I took it out on the water it would go into n/f/r without any issues. When I gave it throttle, it would get to about half way and rev up then stop. I would have to put the throttle back into neutral before we could start moving again. The top speed at half throttle was about 10MPH. I am not sure what could be the problem here. Could this be a throttle adjustment issue? I will have a mechanic come and take a look at it but would like to get some info before the appointment.

Thanks for your guys help in advance.

Re: Force 50 very slow

From all the reading I have been doing on this forum, I think that it is a spun prop. The whole lower unit was replaced including the prop. The condition of the prop was unknown when it was installed. I will have the prop replace and post back with my results.

Thanks for your guys help. This forum is very helpfull and knowledge and helped me get a better idea on the type of motor I have.

It was a spun hub. Purchased a new prop and was good to go. Probably end up rebuilding the old one to have a spare. I was just curious, what is the maximum speed this type of motor will run? I was running 23MPH at WOT and thought this to be just fine for my needs.

I have a 1990 50hp on a 1990 17' bayliner capri bowrider and I get 24 mph with 2 adults a 2 kids at wot. That seems to be the norm from what I have read.

Yeah, that seems to be about the norm. I had 2 adults(including myself) and my 90lb Lab. I could probably get a little more if I change the prop but I am going to stick with what I have.
