force 50hp- How to set points/timing, high idle, gas smelling liquid coming from L/U

finally got my force 50 runnin after replacing points and condensers.
I gapped them using a credit card, then closed just a tad more.(I know this isnt ideal).
Motor has great strong spark now.

HOWEVER, when I started it ran kinda high idle.
I didn't put in gear because of this. I have it running in a small bucket of water.

Question 1-
When I shut off I noticed it was leaking/draining a yellowish liquid from back right bolt drain on L/U.
I rubbed it feels like l/u oil and smells like gas?
What could this be?

I already know I need to change l/u oil because it has water in it I think because I didnt have the unit tightened all the way and it let some water in.

question 2- (does this seem logical?)

Lastly, im wondering if the point gap affects timing/idle? Could I have mis-gapped points, causing high idle?

If it's running the gap shouldn't have an effect on the idle.
The oil/gunk.
Usually it comes from working on the motor, unburned gas/oil working it's way down through the lower unit.
When you use it in a lake it usually works it way out and you never see it.
If the lower unit has water in it?? Then you need to do a pressure test.
Not tightened? The unit should be self contained and not be affected by not being tight?
