Ok I just picked up a 14ft Bayliner Capri with a 50hp that appears to run well. I was just a bit surprised how slow it appeared to be. The RPM seemed to max out at about 3200 and I guess we were doing about 25mph with 2 adults and a child. Does this sound about right. I am probably use to my 17ft trihull with a 115hp. The boat came with a second prop so maybe I will put that on and see if it helps.

Do you have a tach? If it is max'ing out at 3200. That is low, however if you are getting 25MPH out of it, that is about normal. Diff pitch prop might get a little more speed but you wont get much more.

Do a compression/spark test.If the tach is working. It sounds like your dropping a cylinder.Look at the plugs, both burning right? check the fuel filter and then the diaphram.
Those 50's will run on 1 cylinder and seem like it's running tight.
It should go faster than that.Oh yea fill out the profile you might be near someone who can help.J
