Buddy of mine just bought a cheap boat from Facebook which came with a 70hp force. Guy he bought it from let it run it on the hose but they didn’t take it to the lake. Having some experience buying used boats now that sent up a red flag to me. So we started it up on the hose together and I disconnected spark plugs one at a time to check rpm drop.
Cylinder 1: very slight change
Cylinder 2: no change
cylinder 3: engine died.
All three cylinders have bright blue spark.
compression is 119, 122, 120.
ive urged him NOT to take it to the water until we figure this out. It seems to me like it’s running on only 1 or 2 cylinders. What surprises me though is that it only has 1 carburetor on it. So it’s strange to me how it could be getting fuel to the bottom cylinder but not to the other two. We’re gonna take it off and clean it just to be certain, but any other thoughts on what could be causing this?
as always thank you for any advice

Take it to the water and run it???
Then if it has a problem?? We can work on it then?

Sounds like the comp is ok(low but even)(might be the gauge or the procedure)
You have comp, spark and fuel.

The 3cyl one carb isn't the best bit of engineering Force/Mercury came up with.
Run extra oil with the gas.
Make DOUBLE sure the carbs set right frequently.
The top cyl. tends to fail first.
