I have a 1997,75 h.p. Force outboard engine that usally runs great, but the last time I had it out it would run fine then all of a sudden stop running. I would squeeze the bulb to bring more fuel from the inboard tank and it would run fine. It did this three separate times. All at Low rpms. When running at WOT it would run great. My old boat had a 70hp Mercury that did this from time to time, but I would simply open the valve at the top of the portable tanks and hear a hissing sound and then it would run fine. This boat has a vent tube from the on board tank. The bulb also wasn't squeezed flat like the other times with the Mercury. Do you think it could be a fuel pump? The motors only five years old with very little hours on it. If so could I put it on myself or is it a hard job which should be done by a pro? Thanks for your help...........Waterguy

Hi, Waterguy.

I think you are on the right track. Either a weak fuel pump or an air leak somwhere in your fuel supply.

Good luck. :)

Wat,Check to be sure all hoses ,connections
connectors are sound. If you replace the pump
it is basically a bolt on part.If you do a kit
just be careful of little parts.
NAPA doesnt list any fuel pump stuff for the
75.But it seems to me if your motor uses a hose from the pulse port that any hose hookup pump
of the right size would work.
You should really have a ser. manual before you
start any service.they are usually pretty good about info on stuff to look out for etc.
Manuals are usually at the library for reference or at the tab at the top of this page,
amazon,com,NAPA,ebay,etc.
Good luck.

Re: Force 75 hp starved for gas

I've just joined iBoats and I'm glad this site exists. I'm also glad the person who initially asked the question may have received the answer they were looking for?

I'm thinking about purchasing a 1997 Force Mercury 75 Outboard Engine and I would like to do a compression check yet I cannot find the compression specs anywhere? The owner does not have a manual or shop manual so I was wondering if any of you know what they are?

Thank you for your time.

Re: Force 75 hp starved for gas

The factory never published a compression spec for these models. But I know from experience that they were generally between 145 and 155 from the factory. Any number above 120 is great, above 100 should still run.

More important is that the numbers are within 10% ( or 15# )of each other.
