Force 85 1987 tachometer choice ??

Hi,<br />I currently own a 1987 16' Baylinier Capri with a 85 Force outboard. I wish to buy a tachometer to suit, but am confused byt he choices etc, can anyone help, i keep reading about 2-stroke tachos, various poles etc ??<br /><br />Can anyone advise me on what tacho and what spec i need to buy ?? How many poles does my outboard have ?? Its a 3-cylinder 2 stroke engine.<br /><br />Many thanks<br />Steve

Thanks cahp,<br /><br />Unfortunatelyu i have already been sold a Suzuki one from a main dealer boat shop, ive tried it and dont seem to be able to get it to work, i was told to flip a bar on the back of the dial, from the 4 setting to the 12 setting. I guess this is the poles ???<br /><br />Have i been sold a tachometer that i no good for my Force 85 engine ???<br /><br />Can anyone help ?

Hi Steve, you need a tach with a 20 pole setting.

Teleflex makes a tach with a 20 pole setting. I just installed one on my 1987 50 HP and it works well.
