Hi, I have a Force 85 horse engine that was slightly disassembled. Can someone with one of these engines take a picture of the Inside of their outboard specifically in this part? I am trying to figure out where the main BLACK/RED cables from the battery connect inside to the (solenoid? & starter) not quite sure. Thank you.

Behind the starter is a lug/hole with a screw(maybe missing) that the ground wire goes to.
The red hooks right to the first big lug on the solenoid.

Thanks Jerrjerry! I got your message last night but i was at work and couldnt do much. I am home today and will be working on it. I also downloaded a manual and have found the correct wiring diagram for my model & year (1987) 85HP. With your reply and this diagram it totally makes more sense :)
Thank you.

The red is correct.
The black goes straight through behind the starter. Your close but about 4-5" away.
That spot you pointed to is for the bottom starter bracket or brace, it uses a 1/4-20 bolt
The bolt you need is a 5/16X3/4 and a locking washer.

Don't get a deep cycle.
Get a regular starting battery.
Your charging system isn't set up for charging a deep cycle.

One more bit of wisdom: use regular gas.
Both the expensive and leaded regular are better than premium.
Something about the premium slow burning properties???
Look it up?

Thanks Jerry, Question for you, I have been reading up trying to find out the best way to start this motor. It has not ran for about a year. What would you recommend i do before i start her up?
I have heard the following and considered doing this please tell me if i am on the right track or if i should do it a correct way?

I was told:
Take out Spark Plugs, Check them and replace them if necessary
Spray WD40 in the spark plug holes to help prelube the cylinders before firing
Unscrew the screws on the carb bowls and push some fresh fuel through with the bulb on the fuel line.
Once fresh fuel is coming through tighten back up, clean up and fire the sucker up.

Another forum i read people recommended just fire it up without doing much to make sure it runs, than do the stuff like changing spark plugs and flushing out the bad gas.

What would your advice be. Thank you Kindly.
I will be making a video tomorrow with whatever i learn from here tonight.

And she starts and runs!
Now to figure out a few things, why is there no water coming out of the exaust holes in back like there is in other videos... and why is there that popping noise when the motor starts it doesnt happen any other time except for when starting.

The Water not spitting out may have been my own fault, i only put enough water to cover the intake holes, according a video i saw some of these engines the pump is not self priming and the water has to be higher to create the pump action. Will test this out tomorrow.

I would drop the foot and inspect the impeller. When was the last time that it was replaced? Running without water can damage the impeller in a short time.

Not quite sure, i dropped the foot pulled the impeller it looks in pretty decent shape. I ordered a new one, i will put the old one back in and just drop the foot in water and spin the shaft to see if the water is pumping. I am almost certain it was because the foot was not low enough in the water.
