Hello everyone and thank you for taking a look at this thread. I have a 1987 Force 85 that two weeks ago I took it in (60 miles one way) to have it serviced. Tune up, lube change, water pump replaced. Anyway, when I got it home it won't start. I will be taking it back to the shop but I thought maybe it was something simple someone could suggest. Won't even sputter, I'd be happy with a sputter about right now. Have the service manual and checked everything I could think of but then again I'm a newbie when it comes to these 2-strokers. Again, thanks for any help. Oh, one more thing, there is only about 1/8" of travel in the throttle at the engine. I can't figure that one out. Bought the boat two months ago and haven't had it out yet!!

Do you have the lanyard clip hooked up to the kill switch, won't do anything without it being hooked up!
Are you pulling the throttle handle out to the neutral start positon before trying to start the engine?
This allows the engine to start in neutral out of gear for warm up at the dock and allows the throttle to operate.

Go to the Engine FAQs, Robb.

Do the basic troubleshooting in "Outboard won't start".

Let us know what you find.

Also are you choking the motor to start it? This is a common missed thing for new boat owners.

Okay, thanks for the tips! I put a full charge on the battery and it fired right up and runs good. Battery wasn't that low but I guess low enough.?? Somebode along the way must have by passed the landyard switch as it doesn't seem to matter if one is attached or not. Throttle linkage I guess needs some serious adjustments as I still can't get much more than a 1/8 to 1/2" throw on it at the engine.

I must say this is a great site with some really good people, thanks again for the help and suggestions!
