Force 85 Starting in a barrel?

I bought a project 87 Bayliner with a Force 85 a few months back - the price was right. Have it shined up and looking real good. Now it's time to get it running. There is no wiring outside the motor beside the battery cable. Everything else (ignition switch, lighting, etc) was torn out by last owner.

I have the Clymer manual. My question is:
What is the minimum I must hook up to even see if the motor will turn over -- check compression etc to see if it will even run in the driveway???

Thanks,
CJ

A heavy duty ground, a heavy duty red wire to the solenoid for the starter and a red 12V wire to the ignition terminal on the connector block. If you want to remote start then connect 12V to the yellow terminal on the starter solenoid.

Pretty certain that's all you need to run it - if all you want to do is check compression then don't energize the ignition 12V wire.

Ignition on these engines is self energising. As long as you crank it over with gas in it, it will start and run. (assuming all is OK) All you need are the battery cables connected.

You will need to either choke by hand or prime the carbs to start it. Set the throttle to cracked open by hand. To crank, short from the battery side of the solenoid to the small yellow terminal on the solenoid. To kill it, either flood it by choking, disconnect the fuel line and let it run out, or block off the carbs.

Thank You!!

Guess I'm out of time until next weekend - I'll try it then.
