I just purchased a used Key West 1720 DC with a 90 HP Force. Can someone help me figure out what year this motor is? The serial number is QE122348. The only other number I can see on the motor is near the top spark plug - 900-819857-02 - looks like a part #? Everyone tells me the motor is junk, but it runs great and I would like to find out the year so I can properly maintain it. Thanks for your help!

Guys,
Thank you for your help. Sorry for the delay but have had computer problems. Also had trouble posting pictures, but will try again. This forum is so helpful for folks like myself. The more I read though about Force motors the more I start to worry a little. Mine runs great so far. Pushed my Key West 1720 DC with myself and 3 (big) kids (825LBS) and 31 gallons of fuel right at 39 miles per hour! Thanks again!

Before you start worrying...spend some time in the other better known motor manufacturers posts. All of them deal with problems and repairs relative to a specific brand. You would end up thinking they are all problematic. Not necessarily so tho' but these repair forums deal with problems and hence that is primarily what you are going to see and read about here. Don't sweat it too much, anything can be fixed.

MAINTAIN IT PER MANUAL.

Keep anodes healthy, wash down after salty, brackish, acidic, or polutted water. Keep eye out for cracked reed valves (or better yet put new boyensens into a manitenance rotation). Go to merc dealer and find out if tour serial number is part of the self-destructing stator recall. If so, then now is good time to buy one from sea-way for cheap and put on shelf for later (they have entire surplus ign. kits for half price of just stator from dealer). If you do that then I don't think you have any cause for concern.
