Force dies at idle

Hello All,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have a 1987 Force 125 hp on a 1987 VIP f/s that I bought last year. Had it looked over last year and everything checked out. I noticed a little cold-naturedness but not too bad. Had it out last Sat. It wanted to die when at idle and especially when I tried to put it in gear from a stop, even after it was warm. Tank vent is open, fuel filter is clean, new fuel, o/b was winterized.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. :)

have you changed the plugs and cleaned the carbs? sounds like a plug or a dirty carb to me.

Thanks Jim,
No, the carbs were rebuilt last year and I have not changed the plugs. I will though. How often do the carbs need to be "rebuilt" and what is the best way to "clean" them (understanding there is a diffrence). How often should the plugs be changed and can they be cleaned.
Thanks again,

You can try to adj. the idle on the carbs. Turn both screws out at idle and see if that makes a difference. I have the same motor and have to turn them out quite a bit. That would be an easy solution. Also, try idle from an auxilary tank and see if it works better. Also squeeze the ball at idle, if engine gets more gas might have a fuel pump problem.

Force outbound are known for this, mine is a Force 92/120hp and did the same, usually when first started would be ok but once warm who stall in gear, JB gave me a simple fix and it worked, increase your idle, I have mine set at 800-900 RPM's and I don't have the problem anymore, sure makes docking alot easier!

JR, don't touch the MIXTURE screws yet. If its idelling too slow, adjust the idle SPEED screw left of the lower carb. Its a common problem that baffles a lot of people.

New plugs ngk or autolight have more electrod. Use higher octane like 92,sea foam in the can and deep creep sea foam. Bet that should help you out tune her up.
