I have a '91 Force 120 that I've had for 3 years now. Not to many problems. Had to rebuilt the fuel pump when I got the boat, but a quick fix, to what seemed a big problem.
This year I had a bad leak at the carbs so I replaced all seals and gaskets. Put the gaskets on but never adjusted the floats. Could it be the floats? The bottom carb is leaking a lot of fuel out of the mouth.
However, when put the boat in the water it lost idle after about 3-4 minutes running. I restarted it a few times and it barely stayed on. The after a few atempts, the overheat alarm came on. I pulled the boat immediately. I took it to a mechanic and he said there is water in the lower unit, apparently from a missing gasket on the lower unitl vent screw. What could be causing the engine to lose idle after running for only 3 minutes? This isn't like the coughing and sputtering that is common with this engine. I had the throttle all the way down and the thing was barely on. All linkages are fine. The mechanic did a pressure check and is in process of making sure the carbs are synced up. Any suggestions? P.S. I know this is horrible but I bought the boat used and I assume from the shape I bought it in that the impeller has never been replaced. However the engine is pumping water. Could that be the problem? Thanks.
