I need some help fast if anyone out there can help me. I live in mexicio and recently bought a boat with a 90 hp force. It appears I just broke a ring and the mechanic should have it apart tomorrow. the serial number plate is completely blank. On the side of the lower unit is a number stamped on the metal. The number is 719133. Just below that number is a circle with the number 89 in the center of it. I was told this was a 94 and a mercury but it appears to me that it is a chrysler and possibly a 89. I need to know because if it is a chrysler I thik it makes no sense to put any more money into it. any feedback on that?

Thanks

Re: force id help and year

Chrysler never had the name 'force'. The name 'force' only came into existence in 1984 when U.S. Marine bought out Chrysler Marine. Brunswick (merc) bought out U.S Marine in 1992.

If you have a 1989 model, it was made by U.S Marine.

Your numbers do not appear in my force data base.

DUNARUNA,I was under the impression that BRUNSWICK took over FORCE in the mid 80's.NOT that it makes much difference now ,but some one ordering parts might need to know. From what I've read on line ,it changed hands some where around 1986,1987, and still used the U.S. MARINE name until the early 90's,at which time merc started using their name as a FORCE by MERCURY. Please correct me if I'm wrong, just trying to get the correct information for parts and future knowledge. Thanks TURBOMAN -- ROLL TIDE 12-0

Yeah, your right. 1984 to be exact. Corporate timelines get a bit confusing, they often read like a 500 page novel.

U.S marine are the North American marine division of Brunswick Corp. U.S. Marine buy Chrysler in 1984, they launch the new force brand exclusively for the bayliner range as a 'budget alternative'. At this point, they are pretty much identical to the original Chrysler. In 1992, Brunswick start marketing the force worldwide and begin making upgrades, at this point they are a fairly serious contender to yamaha and johnny/rude.

The early force (1984) was actually badged as 'Chrysler by Force'. (some smart arXXX executive sticking it to Chrysler).
