I have spent 3 months of frustration in attempting to deal with Mercury and after market parts suppliers. High prices, phone calls not returned, and parts charged for but not shipped. This experience gained that may be of benefit to others.
1. Save all parts removed and properly identify.
2. No need to chase suppliers for any seals or bearings. They are readily available from your local industrial bearing house if they have something to measure. Mine in were all Timken or SK and were in stock.
3. $800.00 drive yoke from Mercury(In shock) I took mine to a drive line rebuilder. 3 days later with new u joints and fully balanced at $62.00 I was a happy camper.

Hope this helps some one.

I would have to agree. Unless something is very unique, such as a casting or similar the industrial supply and manufacturing element out there is pretty accessible. I wouldn't hesitate to make something if the purchasing cost was excessive or the supply was short.
Good thinking and ingenuity on your part!!
