Why is Force listed with Chrysler Outboards as a forum, even though the later Force models were made by Mercury? It's always a paradigm shift to look for Force by Mercury topics and to post in the Force & Chrysler Outboards forum.

Because a Force is not a mercury motor. i was bought by Brunswick, but it was still a Force motor not Mercury. they have very little in common.

and not all mercury motors are even mercury, some are force that have been re-branded. Unfortunately the force slope only goes one direction. (Force bled into mercury, there was no mercury bleedover into force before the line was killed)

:)Thanks. So my Force, with Mercury in small print has no Mercury genes in it at all? At least it took my old Mecury prop like a glove.

Thanks for the feedback.

Except for everything below the powerhead for the last 5 years of production. Chrysler was forced to sell it's non-auto businesses as part of the government bailout. Bayliner bought their outboard line in 1984 or so and called them Force by Bayliner. When Brunswick bought Bayliner in 1992 or so they became the owners of Force, and it became Force by Mercury. In 1994 they replaced the complete Chrysler lower units with Mercury lower units. From 1994 to 1999 when they ended production they were Chrysler powerheads with Mercury lowers.

YEP! And only difference was Mercury changed the splines in the crankshaft to accomodate the Mercury drive shaft. (With the exception of the 3 cylinder 70 and 75 which had other more drastic changes.)

Merc also added Mercury ignition.
