After playing with this thing over and over, I thought that yesterday, I had fixed my bogging and rough running problems. I had been playing with fuel bulbs, cleaning and adjusting carbs, etc., only to have the next time out on the water, she'd run great, then bog. Repeat this all day long. So yesterday, I got my head out of "fuel issues", and into spark. ( I melted a piston on this thing a week after I bought it.. debris from fuel tank starved me out, so fuel/air problems was on my mind). Anyway, while idling on the water, my hand brushed the wiring that goes to the bar that has about 20 wires on it, held by screws..smoothed right out!
OK, got ya now, sucka. I proceeded to find the loose screw on the wire labeled #3, tightened it up. Dang.. holeshots, top end, idles smoooooth. Life is good and fast on the water!
Yee haa. I went out today, she's missing, bogging.. same old same old. Got disgusted, went home, started reading missfire threads on here, getting skeered of laying out bucks for coils, cdi stuff, etc. Anyway, out of about 7,237 threads about missfires only one guy..just ONE guy posted what to look for that fixed my engine.
I went out a minute ago, and looked at those connectors again. The loose screw #3 wire?.. INSIDE the tiny shrink wrapped end at the connector where the #3 label is..was a wire broken, touching intermittantly.. ( more not than the other).. so.. I peeled it back, exposed some new wire, wrapped it around the screw.. and got ready to fire it on the muffs. But wait, there's more.. if it could happen to one wire, would the others be too "special" to be damaged?,, nope.. found wire labled #4 loose under the shrink wrap..sliding in and out of the connector. Did the same "repair" to that wire..... fired it up.. I now got full rpms, smooth idle, and all that. All it took was a little push/pull on the wire..if you feel ANY movement.. re-do that connector.
Moral?
K.I.S.S.
Unless there's a loud bang, flames, and a lotta smoke... it's probably a simple adjustment or repair. As an auto mechanic.. I see more loose/dirty ground issues than bad parts. Free fix, easy to eliminate.
