Force Outboards have a bad rep?

Hi, I have an opportunity to pick up nice 19 foot Proline walkthru. In all my years, I've never seen a proline walkthru (maybe I just wasn't looking). Anyway, it's a solid family boat with an affordable price. The only downside (besides maybe being underpowered) is that it has a force 120 hp outboard on it. I dont know why, but so many people have told me to stay away from Force outboards. Can anyone tell me why these engines have been given this bad reputation?

I have had my 85 Bayliner with a Force50 on it for some time and outside normal maint. have had very few troubles. So if they have kept records of maint. on this I dont think it would scare me, if the price was right.<br />But this is just my opinion. for what its worth.

I have had a Force 90 outboard, and I have heard it from both sides. I didn't have much luck with mine, but that was probably due to a dirty gas tank problem that I didn't discover until after I blew it up twice. I have known many people that have had force engines, and very good luck. Like Chet, normal maintence, and very few problems (if you have an outboard, your going to have a few) The bad thing that I really don't like about Force is that they measure their horsepower at the powerhead, rather than the propshaft, kinda like measuring at the engine in a car rather than the rear wheels. This would be fine, except everybody else measures at the propshaft, so that 120 is probably about the equivalent of a merc 100 or 90. I am not totally for sure on the equivalent, just a guess. Just keep the filter clean, don't forget to premix, and run it hard! Good Luck

Last weekend we were out on our boat and it was running great, when twords the end of the day the motor would only rev up to mabey 1500 RPM (I am just guessing here there is no tach.) the motor still sounded good not missing or anything just would not rev like it should. We left the lake and headed home when I looked everything over the only problem I could find is that we were basically out of gas, I filled it up put the muffs on it and ran it in the driveway. It sounded great reved up like it should and everything. Went back to the lake this weekend and had the same problem from the start (will not rev past 1500RPM or so) So I realised that when I am in neutral the motor revs all the way up no problem but in forward or reverse in the water it will not. I pulled the plugs and they are not fouled out. I have no idea where to look anyone have any ideas?<br />Thanks in advance.Thats chets force thats (had no major problems)

I HAVE A 1994 FORC 120HP.REALLY NO MAJOR PROBLEM WITH IT , THE ONLY PROBLEM ON THE FORCE ENGINE IS THE STATOR;WHICH WAS MADE FROM MERC, MAUFACTURE THE ONE IN THE BLACK HOUSING. SINCE 94 WENT THREW 3 STATORS NOW JUST REPLACED IT CDI. UNIT COMES WITH A 2 YR, WARRENTY ;OTHERWISE CHANCE IMPELLER ONCE AND A SEAL ON LOWER UNIT . I THINK A LOT HAS TO DO WITH MAITENCE @ HOW TO YOU TAKE CARE OF IT.

Well, I heard nothing but bad news, where I live.<br />Some dealers won't even think of bringing in a Force motor for repairs. <br />I recently purchased a 19ft Bayliner-Cuddy.<br />Awesome boat, good shape, but one downfall.....it has a 1986 150HP Force motor.<br />To top it all, idle/neutral speed problems...keeps stalling and I have a scored cylinder #5. Now looking into selling the Force and buying a 130HP Honda - 4 stroke.<br />Good Luck earaiak !!!!

only when u let your girlfriend drive awe good maitnence is always the way I have heard the same about all the others does any one know whose is the best
