anybody know when force changed the color of their motors from white to black?

1985 and earlier tend to be an off white. PPG distributor had no listing and no exact matches in paint book. However, found that 3 tablespoons light biege per pint of great falls white was extremely close.

1986, 1987, and 1988 are blue. PPG carries a ford color called deep wedgewood blue that is an almost exact match. avaiilable in both AE and UE.

1989 and later are nearly black. I think it is called phantom gray? It is another out of production color that can be very nearly duplicated by mixing jet black gloss with the above blue.

So would that mean my engine isn't an '88 since it is blackish? The number on the side is H1254X8C? Just curious.

Doesn't matter what color or year it is. It will still be a force.

I've seen all kinds 1988. I guess if it was made early in year then more blue. If made late in year then more black. personally, I mix my own color for force. 2 parts midnight blue metalflake to one part jet black gloss. Even though it does not exactly match any one year it does almost match everything from 1987 thru 1994. So it is a one size fits all color.

The decals on 87,88,89 were all different.That's the easy way to tell them apart.The paint were supposed to be the same but I noticed some variations in the colors.The paint can still be bought at some Merc dealers.
Just give it up and paint them Phantom Black.
