Force prop nut????

I have a 94 40 hp force. I made the first mistake of letting someone use my boat and now it has no prop nut. Now I am in search of a new prop nut and am having a hard time finding one.
Also I cant get the prop pin out to remove the prop. It hits the prop. Im guessing I need to heat up the prop so it can slide up the shaft some (towards the boat)?
THANKS for any help.

Re: Force prop nut????

Couple of photos would not hurt.

I am not too familiar with the Force 40. By prop nut, do you mean tailcone? Usually a black plastic piece that screws onto the shaft. It retains a thrust pin in the prop hub. It screws onto the propshaft and is held from slipping off with a cotter pin.

If this is what you mean, It was the same part for all Chrysler 35, 45, 50, and 55 and all Force thrust pin props over 40 HP. Except, it was white for Chryslers.

The pin itself sometimes gets stuck in the shaft and must be lightly hammered out. If it hits one prop blade on a three blade prop, simply drive it out the other way.

No matter what prop you have: Do NOT heat the prop. While the rubber hub can withstand mild heat, too much temperature will melt it. Then, the prop will need to be re-hubbed.

Yep Im looking for the tailcone. Didnt know thats what its called. Do you know of any online sources for one?
I will post pics of my thrust pin problem later. But it is not hitting a blade on the prop. Before it even gets a chance to get out of the hole it is hitting the flat part of the prop. But like I said I will get a pic up later.
Thanks.

OHO! That hub is not pressed far enough inot the prop.Heating will not help unless you destroy the rubber hub and you really don't want to do that. Try putting a big socket over the hub and hammering a bit to try and drive the prop back down. Don't get too forceful because you will be transmitting force against the front thrust bearing.

If that doesn't work, chamfer the prop just enough where the thrust pin is hitting it. Then drive it out. Once you get it (the pin) over the edge of the prop, it will force it back. With the prop that far rearward on the hub there is a good chance that the rubber itself is "spun." Have you used the engine? Does it feel like it is slipping after a certain speed? If the hub is spun, you may be able to wedge the prop off over the pin. Then, either buy a new prop here at iboats store or a used one on the auctions. See my private message.
