I bought a Carolina skiff with a 50hp (1997 model) with about 50 hours on it. I know the hours on it were about right because my brother bought it new and kept it in Fla. and just used it when he went down for a coulpe weeks a year. I bought it a couple years ago and I dont run it much either.

I am absolutely happy with it. I have it serviced every year by the dealer who sold it new. There have been a few little things go wrong but nothing major.

My question is are they still made outside of the USA? One fellow told me that Merc got rid of them because of EPA standards but that they were still being built and marketed overseas by other companies.

Anyone know anything to confirm or deny this?

Thanks, guys.

Tom

Sorry, The Force motors are out of production.
The last model year was 1999.

Perhaps the info you were told was about Mariner motors. They are still in production, but are not being sold in the USA. There might be a few sitting at dealers, but they are no longer being distributed.

Make sure you take care of your Force.
Decarb regularly, and change the water pump annually.
Many Force engines went to the graveyard from broken rings or failed waterpumps.

Roscoe,

Thanks, Buddy !!

I have a water pressure guage and I keep an eye on it.
The dealer who sold and services it is a fairly well known racer and a friend of my brother. (Hes the driver in the Merc commercials where it seems the boat is going to run over you. He said it scared him to do that because he had to come within a couple feet of a pier going REAL fast.)---- anyway, he told me to run Klotz syhthetic @ 2oz. per gallon rather than 2 1/2 oz. per gallon and it would help the engine and cut down on the smoke.
The fellow that actually services my motor worked at Cypress Gardens until they closed. The engines they ran were all Force.
I feel blessed to have you fellows and those two to educate me.

Thanks a lot.

Tom

Say what? they ran mostly inboard type ski boats like Master Craft now they may have had one or two on some jonboats but I think those were mercs
I am not downing Force i have one I just think this guy is BSing you. There are not even any dealers in the Winter Haven area that have ever sold Froce and I don't see them going to Tampa for a motor
