Force to Mariner Swapp??

Will a lower unit from a 89 125hp 25" cross over to a 89 115hp 20" Mariner? I am in a bind the Mariner I just bought is five inchs to short for my boat, but the lower unit to my old motor is in perfect condition. Please tell me they will cross over.

suggest bolting on a jack plate, rather then cuttin the transom. if it won't swamp the engine.

Can you tell me what a Jack plate is?? And where I can get one that will drop me 5 inches for my 89 19' Bayliner??
