What motor is it on? You should be able to rebuild the valve body many have done it.

Re: Force trim tilt

1) probably valve body

2) bolt? there is no such bolt. '84 and '87 should both have stainless steel retaining clip that holds in "manual release plug". If you remove front manual release then engine should drop but you probably won't be able to lift it by hand. It hand depends upon position of shuttle valve. Make sure not to lose any parts. None of them are available. If you lose a part then it could cost you a couple hundred dollars.

3) many have tried, few have succeeded. Those who think they do rarely have a unit with full life expectancy.

Re: Force trim tilt

Ok its a plug with a seal on the end.:)Ok I have it all apart and now I think I see the problem .It looks like the little valves that are in the valve body are shot.I found that one of them had a little seal on the end and it would hold air.Now the other valve there was none and it would not hold air.I think I was told a long time ago that they fall apart over the years and thats how they start to leak down.So if anyone knows something about the little valve seal that I need please let me know where to get them and a part number would help.

Thank guy for all the help

Re: Force trim tilt

I don't know part number. Somewhere buried deep within mercury catalogs it is sure to be available. The same hexagonal valve needle is used throughout nearly all of their prestolite and eaton based sytems. I have heard that the same part is also used in riding lawnmowers as a carberator needle ... although i would not be surprised if the carberator model used a softer rubber and didn't last as long under pressure.

You need to be careful with your check valves. If your engine is over 85HP then the aluminum plug is a little weak to start with. The backpressure can cause it to stretch or distort. If you stress out the metal then valve cap may just pop off every year or so.

Ok I found the part number# for the 2 valves. Now after looking this thing over in my book I came up with the parts I have and the book is telling me I missing parts. This is what I have And I know its wrong but some how it worked for two years this way for me.

I have four ball bearing 3 large and one very small book tells me only three large

I have 2 springs 1 large spring and a very short small spring book tells me 3 springs ! large One (MED) and One short.

Now just to let you know this was taken apart long before I had it and I have been using it for two years with no problems

If anyone know something about this thing please get back to me before I sell it for parts:)Also Are the needle valve seal's just a very small o ring that I can buy from the autoparts store

Thanks Shawn

Re: Force trim tilt

the valves at gear plate set your pressure.

early models regulated pressure in both forward and reverse. they had two springs, two valve seats, and two valves. later models only regulated pressure in the up direction. They only had one valve seat, one srping, and one ball valve.

If you have a book that actually shows the springs and shims then you are already far ahead of anything that can put into a small forum post. examine valve body lower half. if the valve seat does not have an oil passage drilled then it does not need any type of spring or valve.

Re: Force trim tilt

The mrec pn for the seal is 820719, Tecumseh pn 631021, the Tecumseh pn is a carb needle and seat seal, the seal is same as the merc different color.
