Re: force50 not used in a long time

Start by removing the float bowl on the carburator and see if any gas is left in it. Also look in there for gum and crud. If not to bad dump any gas and put float back on. Next get about a gallon of gas in a portable tank and mix it with 2.6 oz of good quality marine outboard oil that is TCW3. Put lower unit in water and prime it and see if you can get it to fire. To engage choke you push the key in when trying to start it. If motor runs proceed with draining and filling lower unit, replace impeller, rebuild fuel pump and if need be rebuild carb. Get a clymer service manual for force then enjoy it.

If it wont start do a compression and spark test before spending any money on it. If the cylinders are damaged use it for a boat anchor.

Go to Engine FAQs. "Awakening a sleeping outboard".

Re: force50 not used in a long time

Thanks for the reply.I checked out the post in Engine FAQs and it was good stuff. What i was hoping to find was if there was any particular problems with this out board motor that a person should know about .Ive checked out the rest of the Force posts and most of them seem to be ignition related with some fuel problems.
p.s. the basic premantanance startup is a given
thanks p.j.
