Apart from visual, about the only test you could do if you really wanted to do a mechanical test would be to rig up a some form of torque test jig. Get an old input shaft and weld a bar to it at 90 degrees. Set the coupler up in a vice or holding frame and use the input shaft to apply a load. Much the same as propeller hubs are tested.
