Good day. I have finally received my dizzy. The engine from the machine shop is on tdc. I have backed it so the pointer is at 10 bdtc. My question is were should the rotor be pointing when distributer is in all the way. It is down all the way and it is aiming towards the left side of carb. Basically at the carb bolt. Any help would be great. Pictures even better. Thanks in advance

Rotor should be pointed where no 1 cylinder post in cap is

Put the cap on the distributor.
Use a felt marker to put a mark on the distributor body that aligns with the distributor post for the #1 plug.
Remove the distributor cap.
Align the rotor with the mark on the distributor body.
That should get you in the ball park.

I may not have explained it well.
There won't be a mark on the cap.
In theory #1 can be any terminal on the cap.
The rotor doesn't have to point to the number one cylinder on the block, although it often does, just to the terminal on the distributor cap that has a plug wire going to the number one cylinder

pic a terminal and call it #1. (you can even used the one with the dot next to it.).

make the rotor point there. when the motor is at TDC

use timing light to dial in timing

Make sure that it's TDC on the FIRING stroke! 4 stroke engines reach TDC twice for each full cycle. Once on the firing stroking, and once on valve overlap. Get the right one and all is good. Get the wrong one and you usually end up with it back-firing through the carb.
