1995 VP 5.0FL (Ford 302 carbureted), SX Cobra, 160 degree therm, 1/2 closed cooling, just replaced manifolds, risers, impeller, water circulation pump, and serviced/cleaned the heat exchanger

Hello...quick question.

All the posts I have read seem to indicate that with a 160 degree thermostat that the engine should run at about 150 to 160 degrees. Mine goes to 140 and stays there whether at idle or at speed. Is this something that I should investigate ...or just not worry about it? Seems like with the 1/2 closed cooling system that it should run close to 160....
thanks

Re: Ford 302 Running temp

I would be happy with 140... Haul a few friends around on a tube for 15-20 min and see if the temp goes up... mine does. you might lose a little efficiency from lower temp, but not enough to make a difference...
