My motor died this season and I've been having trouble finding a new one for the amount I want to spend. I did find a Ford 460 and need to know if it will fit my tranny or not before I buy and try. Right now, I have a 30' Revel Craft with a 1972 Ford 302 cid V8 Reverse Rotation motor with a Velvet drive transmission. The motor was a replacement that came out of twin screw and has troubled me since I got the boat. I feel like this motor doesn't have the power for the boat and if I need to buy another motor, I would like to upgrade. So I need to know if the tranny will fit up and how hard is it to change over a velvet drive transmission to standard rotation? I've heard you can do it by changing a plate in the tranny. Any thoughts?

look for a 351W. it will bolt up and has some extra power.
the heads from the 302 wont fit unless the bolt holes are drilled out, also nothing else engine wise will fit, but it will bolt right in.

Are you trying to tell us you have a single 302 to power a 30' boat? Even twin 302 would be under powered. Twin 351 would be more appropriate as would twin 460's.
