Anyone out there own any of these vehicles? We are about to be in the market for a new SUV/Crossover and these are what we have narrowed it down too. We have driven all but the Traverse because it doesn't come out till later this year and we can't really decide. My family likes Fords, My wife?s family likes GM products, and I drive a Nissan Titan so we know about them all. haha :D Anyway, I wanted to see if any of you had one of these and what you thought. Thanks!

(The reason I posted this here is because I thought there may be some mechanics on here that know some "technical" +s or -s to the vehicles. ;))

Re: Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, GMC Acadia, or Chevy Traverse????????

My mom owns a Nissan Murano and I have spent a fair amount of time driving it. It has plenty of punch, lots of room, and a reasonably smooth ride. Her's is AWD and in the winter it went through almost anything. Mostly highway driving is around 22 - 23 mpg and city will get you around 19 - 20mpg. Almost 65,000 miles and no major problems just some minor stuff covered under warranty. The one thing that bothers me is the CVT transmission, it's very smooth but it is constantly adjusting itself, which I know is the nature of the beast but it can be kind of annoying on the highway when you want to pass it it will always try to adjust the ratio of the belt rather than let the engine rev. They say it requires premium but we have no trouble running it on regular. One thing thats a necessity is the back up camera b/c the rear window is way too high to see anything out of.

I work in Ford service. From what I see the Edge has been reliable thus far. Very limited warranty claims (the first year had problems with the half shafts leaking trans fluid). The GMC does and the Chevy will [likely] share the 6F transmission with the Edge so theres no comparison there unless you step to the AWD and get the CVT transmission. Dont buy a first year anything. Nissan has had the Murano for a while so it is tried and true but also will be slated for death or re-design very soon so it could look dated rather quickly. All have similar power trains. GM has a stronger and longer history with their engine but the Ford 3.5 is quite powerful. Mostly it will depend on your personal tastes and expectations because all of your choices ride a similar rail.

Thanks for all the info KW!!!!!! Oh and btw, the murano has been redesigned for the 2009 model. They didn't make a 2008 and redesigen the 2009. Looks nice to me! I still can't decide though. Oh well, we have a little while before we decide to do anything. :) Again, thanks for the info though!!!

I think the Acadia/Outlook are gorgeous vehicles. We would love to have gotten one when we bought a vehicle earlier this year but we can only afford used. We ended up getting an '04 Pacifica with 45k miles on it loaded to the teeth for $17k. They were one of the first "crossovers" which is what we wanted so there wasn't much to choose from in our price range. We're very happy with it. It's our first AWD vehicle and I've very impressed with it's capabilities in rain and snow. We've got fairly worn out tires on it now and it's still unstoppable.

I was very impressed with the edge. Very nice vehicle.

The GMC/chevy are considerable bigger than the edge/murano. Well Longer anyway. Is a third row seat important?

No. 3rd row isn't important. My wife had be get a picture of each one I mentioned and put them on all on one page and erase the brand logo on then and she went by just looks and she narrowed it down to the Murano pretty much. :D

Re: Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, GMC Acadia, or Chevy Traverse????????

We tested the new Saturn Outlook, I believe a sister vehicle to the Acadia. Has a very long wheelbase, so not the easiest to park. We also weren't impressed with the unexpected very firm ride. With an aversion to Ford (been there, never again) and Nissan (not been there due to experience of friends), we decided to test Toyota. Looked at Highlander, but really liked the 4Runner, which we ended up buying. It's backseat folds the flatest of all the vehicles we looked at, and its 100% contented and assembled in Japan. When it was built last August the dollar was trading at 124 yen. Now it is down to 107 yen, but as of last April Toyota had yet to raise the price.
