I have a 2000 ford expedition and lately when I start it when it's cold the gauges move all the way around and then back and then to normal. example the tach goes from zero rpms to 6000 and back to zero and then to idle. The truck isn't revving up anymore than a normal start. Is my truck trying to tell me something? <br /><br />Kevin

I park my 97 expedition outside and when the temp dips below zero the radio loses its presets and time.. I chalk it up to a momentary loss of battery power when I try to turn it over. Sometmes the radio display does not come on. I have to restart iot for the radio display to come back. Kind of strange but then again it is freakin cold out.

Can't always park inside and it's butt cold out. The car temp said 6 degrees this afternoon. Thought maybe it was a code or something. Probably should get a new battery, it's the orginal and has 5 years and 80k on it.

I have an 04 F350 and it has dropped to the negatives at least once. Never had that problem here. Park outside all winter, just plug in the block heater.<br /><br />AK Chappy

My battery is original with 130+K on it. I am probably pressing my luck..<br /><br />I have a double garage but there is no way I can get that one in there with the suburban.

Starter draw causes gages to preform weird check connections on battery and starter

On big trucks its normal the computer is doing a system check i don't think fords are supposed to do it. you could have a loose connection that acts up when its cold

Fords Have whats called a generic electronic module under the dash alot of stuff is powered thru it including the gages. A good shop with a scanner can check it for you. Have run into these kind of problems with Fords. <br /><br />Rick<br />ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician

I think you're on the right track about the old battery. You're putting a big draw when you start a cold engine and modern electronics are very sensitive to low voltage.<br /><br />My Jeep was having a hard time starting when hot during the summer a couple years ago and would sometimes lose radio and seat presets. I was thinking maybe a draggy starter, but I took it to Sears and they said the 5 year old OEM battery was shot. New battery cleared everything up.

I talked to a ford tech tonight and asked him if he had run accross any that did that and he said either your keyless entry pad is not programed or you might have only one key programed for it and its telling you to get it looked at.

No No No. Its because the Battery is low in charge. Its not a malfuntion. Its a Good Ford as opposed to the Dodges and Rocks and such.

Interesting, I do have onlyone keyless entry remote and only one code on the keyless pad on the door. <br /><br />Kevin<br />

Another little interesting fact on the Expedition guages is that the oil guage is either on or off. It is more of an idiot lite than a pressure guage. Maybe everyone knew that but it came as a surprise to me..
