What is it with Fords 15" wheels. Aluminum or steel it doesn't matter, it seems they all rust or corrode. Can't find them anywhere around here. Plenty of 16's but no 15's. I did a bit of searching to find out what size tire I would need to go to using 16" rims. It seems that the 215-70R-16 is close, but still about one inch taller. I know I have to do all four since it is on my wifes Explorer which is 4WD. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix your problem? Thanks........SS

I bought a set on svtperformance.com alot of guys pull em off to go bigger. Although prices have gone back up because guys figured out they are light wheels ie drag racing.

Re: Ford Wheels

I bought a set of Jeep cherokee wheels for my girlfriends 2000 explorer. They fit fine and are on CL every day around here, guys are always putting custom wheels on their jeeps, and selling the factory ones cheap. I got these factory alloy wheels for $80 for the set, with center caps. :D

Are you talking about chromed alloy wheels? Is the corrosion you are referring to cosmetic or functional?

One of the chromed alloy wheels on my wifes '05 lincoln corroded under the bead chrome and lifted it. I cleaned off the loose edges, wire brushed the aluminum underneath then filled the voids over with epoxy. Now the tire holds air. The dealer told her she would have to buy a new $600 wheel.

.

What I got is steel with a stainless cover on the outside. Both rears have cracks around the valve stem. Beads are in good shape. Probably check out what Ken has posted.

Thanks Ken, I'll check them out. I have a friend that does a lot of scrap hauling. He has a set of four, but has to dig through the big piles that he has.

Make sure that all are the same size, guy I work with put 2 used tires on his explorer (rears). They were a slightly different size and he blew his t-case in about a week!
