Forgive me, but please help me :)

Well, forgive my ignorance as I am completely new to this. I've recently been wanting a project and I've wanted a boat for a while so I figure ill take one on as a project. There is this boat across the street from my offices, looks like a decent hull, interior is in pretty good shape, no motor but the owner says he has all the hardware, it had a 440 in it. So im interested in it, but I need some information first, like how much will it take to make it operable supposing all it needs is a motor and whatever is associated with that. All I am looking for is a boat for cruising around the lakes around here, and possibly pulling a wakeboarder now and again. Now I know this isnt really enough information for you guys, but the problem is that I dont know what to ask and such to get pertinent information, so thats why I say forgive me

Could you downsize your picture to 640x480?...that is a jet boat, more of a "hot rod" type of boat. If you are looking for a family boat, to wakeboard, tube, ski ect..find a bowrider. If want an an inboard/outboard.(engine like you see in a car) find something around 18-20ft with a a 4.3v6 or larger merc or volvo. Stay away from the OMC drives.

First off... resize your picture to around 640 x 480. It makes it much easier for us to view.

I don't have an answer for you, but here are a few questions....
1.) What shape is the hull in? Damages, cracks, etc
2.) What shape is the interior in? Vinyl, deck, etc
3.) What shape is the trailer in? Tires, corrosion, etc

I would imagine that the motor, if bad, is your most expensive part. I don't know of a cost, but it will vary greatly depending on if you get new/used.

If you can supply some of the above answers, then perhaps others can get you closer on dollars.

Hull looks to be in good shape but im no expert, the interior is actually pretty decent, and the trailer is in so so condition

Talk him down enough so that your only paying for the trailer. Does he have all the paperwork for the boat and trailer?

Buy a boat with all of the hardware, including engine unless it's an outboard, otherwise you will get dime and quartered to death replacing the million tiny bits which cost $40 a pop, sometimes much more. Many parts are not even available any more, so you may get a boat missing one part and not be able to replace it at all. Rebuilding is far easier than fabricating.
