I have a 1985 evinrude 150xp model E150stlcos. I have put another lower unit on the motor. It has the same size shift on the lower unit like the old lower unit. I am having problems adjusting the shift lever. Any suggestions on how to adjust this would be appreciated.

Re: Forward and reverse gear

push the shift rod down to get it in reverse, then put shift lever in reverse and attach the 2 rods together.

No did not adjust the shift rod it look like it was about the same as the old one. What is the correct dimension for this and do I need to remove the lower unit to adjust it?

Re: Forward and reverse gear

I pull the lower unit back off and check the shift rod dimension and it was set to 21 15/16". does any one have a picture of the shift lever on the motor. I need to find out if the shift lever point out to the boat are if it point to the block of the motor.

Re: Forward and reverse gear

The shift rod dimension is set at 21 15/16" in neutral. With the motor not running I can put it in reverse and it works ok but when I put it in forward it seems that it will not go all the way in gear when I turn the prop. Then I take and push the shift rod forward by hand and it will lock in gear. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
