forward control wont go into neutral or forward

ok after previously putting in new steering cable and having a days fishing with no drama,i have just gone and hung all wires & cables up out of the way,did have a minor problem with tilt/trim which i fixed by a light sanding on points in fuse box,went to start motor but didnt start as looked like starter motor wouldnt engage flywheel,now after moving gears to reverse it is stuck wont get neutral or forward,released all wiring that was tucked away in case but to no avail.any ideas?motor is a johnson 1978 115hp etz,cheers

Disconnect shift cable from engine and check if problem is in engine or remote. If throttle cable has been adjusted too hard on the engine side, this may happen.

ok disconnected throttle cable from motor and all seems to working on motor,throtle control wont click into neutral from reverse or go into forward,feels like something blocking it,any ideas ,maybe time for new throttle cable?

May be time to dismantle the control and check is anything is broken inside.
Which one are you using?
The pre-79 Power Shift with the old type cables or the later one with Snap-On cables?

pre 79 ,checked inside and all seems good,have noticed about 3 inch spot where the plastic cover was broken on the cable and the outer layer of wire has rusted to the point where it crumbles the internal part of it is ok,could this be the trouble?

Yes. Put in new cable.
