Here's one for yall...I put my '91 Reinell 196 in the water yesterday and cruised around with nary a problem. Went to put it back on the trailer and discovered that it's stuck in gear! I have no neutral, and no reverse. It'll start when the shift lever is in the neutral position, but then I give it throttle in forward, or reverse, it'll only go forward. Also, when the lever is in the neutral position, the prop is still turning (still in forward gear)
When running, it runs as normal. I left my shop manual at the lake, so I need a little help / advice.

5.7L OMC/cobra

thanks!

Re: Forward gear only! Help....

Did you shut your boat off while it was in foward gear?

I wonder if the shift linkage is broke. Maybe someone can back me on this, but the cobras and volvos (american drives) are similar. The volvos have the shift linkage in the upper part of the gear houseing, and I think the cobras do. you can pop off the back plate on the upper, and see where the cable runs through the houseing. have someone watch, and someone shift, and see if that linkage is working... may even be a broken cable.
