I have been trying to find the issue that is making my engine run like crap @ idle. I just found a burnt wht/blk wire from the trigger to the switch box. Could this be the link to my idle/timing issues? Thx again any input- serial# OB174624

Always include year/make/serial#/4 or 6 cyl. That way we know what we are working on.
Repair that wire.If it only runs like crap at idle,I'd guess U have a fuel/carb/pump problem.
Start replacing all the hoses, then any connectors.Remove the carb and clean them.Make sure that the jets are clean.Any crap in the low speed jet will cause trouble.Any over the counter spray cleaner will work. Then rebuild the pump.
When U get it all clean and rebuilt, make sure that U set the carbs. In the Force section there is a linc and sinc. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=431021&pagenumber= By Frank A It has a lot of good info U can work into your repair.

Blue is the low speed side of stator, if it was burnt into engine would not run. A loose connection would result in odd missing but doubt high rev's has you posted earlier.

Faztbullet- I was wrong in my posting title- it's actually the wht/blk wire coming from the trigger. The wire is completely burned off- all that is left is the connector on the switch box, and the end going under the fly-wheel. And the engine still runs- just fast idle- cough or miss. unresponsive to low idle timing/idel screw adjustments. As I have noted in my other thread- rebuilt fuel pump- new plugs/wires. New fuel line kit, rebuilt carbs, link and sync, all is spot on- then I notice this wire. Some how this has to be related to my running issue. Sorry for the mix up.

That might cause it due to the Wht/blk is floating ground thru bias of switchbox, it would show up as timing would be erratic when you check it. Fix it and it may cure problem or it may have damaged switchbox bia's circuit.

Just got home replaced the burned portion of the wht/blk wire on the trigger. Started the engine and she is running perfect!! Let it run for 30 or so mins to make sure wire wont burn again. I think the wire sheath got brittle with age- a bare area touched the + side of the tilt/trim relays under the cowl, and it cooked the wire. No other signs of damage as of yet. Thanks to all who had input on this problem. Who new that a wire buried behind the starter out of site could cause so much trouble. But what the heck- now my carbs and fuel pump are good for a couple more seasons. after the fresh rebuild.
