I was cruising around the lake at about 4200 rpms and on the 3rd pass I all of a sudden lost 40% of my power, it would plane out and just ran like crap.

After figuring it was some kind of blockaged I check the fuel line, inlet filter, drained gas ect.. but No go so I finally brought it in.

The mechanic installed a rebuilt kit and also discovered cake batter like substance.

Now it runs good however do you think this came from my fuel? What should I do to prevent more of this gunk from showing up?

If you do, it sounds like you need a new one. If you don't, you can search these forums about the installation and the importance of having one. When I got my boat, some goober had put in a lawn mower fuel filter......not good.

Yes I do, just installed a brand new one when I was troubleshooting the fuel system. So the gunk was there before and after I put that in.

Is your oven broke? Tell your wife to use her car engine to bake, and not your boat.

I'll need to know more before I can troubleshoot this... What flavor was it?

You'll have to look in the tank. Probably has a good load of water/fuel mix in there. Clear the tank of the bad fuel and check the seal around the fuel filler cap on the outside of the boat. Could just be years of condensation, but it could be the water is getting in under the cap.

What about disconnecting the fuel line at the carb, holding a large glass container and cranking the fuel into the glass to see if the fuel coming out is contaminated?

It wouldn't hurt to siphon out the old fuel, put in fresh fuel and some carb cleaner/HEAT and see if that clean up the gas to that point. You may be due to change out the two filters again too.

I'd also ask, what do your plugs look like? wet, dry, black, tan, smell like gas, look like oil, etc, etc....

I did siphon out all of the gas, put fresh stuff in after the event of course. Plugs were installed last week so they look brand new with no gas smell.

I'll treat it with heat just in case.
