Got this boat from a cousin, he had issues before he stored it for winter and now I have it. 1994 caravelle 1750 with a 3.0 inline 4, alpha 1 gen 2. I pulled the badly marred prop off and found quite a bit of fishing line wrapped up. What does that fishing line being in there typically cause?? He launched and after throttle up, motor ran up but boat didn't move very well and heard some grinding/ clicking like a hand tool ratchet. Could this be related or should I start with a new prop and hub?

If the fishing line caused the seal to leak and if the oil was low and never checked prior to startup the depending on the low/no oil condition the drive is trashed

Gear Oil level is good no gear oil around prop, and no water in gear oil. I think as far as that goes should be okay. I'm still leaning on incorrect throttle cable adjust or worn cable. The hand control was clocked incorrectly as well. But would the fishing line cause the prop to not rotate, almost like the bad hubs would do(so I've read)??

I know it's common for a$$holes that go flying down the beach in front of surf fisherman.....

Fishing line will eat lower unit seals in a heart beat.

Have never found line on my that wasn't self inflected...

I would pressure test the drive and check the gear oil level.

Fishing line eats seals
